RxConnect System Requirements

These documents detail the system requirements for the RxConnect CKO server, Database server, Web server and Ports and include a matrix for determining the environment size.

Architecture of RxConnect - PDF here - as of March 2021
For very small facilities - STANDALONE facility

Environment Sizing Matrix Below:

The matrix shown here serves as a basic guideline to determine which environment size a client may need.  Actual installation recommendations will need to be reviewed with System Engineering based on unique client requirements. While determining the appropriate environment size, a System Engineer must also account for future growth in the near term as well as other usage scenarios.

# Hospital Beds # of Simultaneous Pharmacy Users Integration with CPOE/eMAR, ADM, Billing Minimum Environment Size
1 to 3 hospitals or 600 beds 1 to 6 Up to 1 integration type only Small
4 to 25 hospitals or 601 to 5,000 beds 7 to 75 Up to 3 integration types Medium
26 to 150 hospitals or 5,001 to 30,000 beds 76 to 300 Up to 3 integration types Large

Questions that have been asked by clients:

  1. Can the servers have valid SSL certificates (for encryption)? The web servers can use SSL if needed.
  2. What type of authentication is taking place from end users overall?
    1. AD and/or local? This depends on if RxConnect is connected to Avatar or not. If it is connected to Avatar, then it would use Avatar authentication. If not, then it would use Active directory.
  3. RX Connect Application/Web server
    1. What data is being housed here? This server just holds the website. No other actual data is stored on the web/app server.
    2. Can this port be changed to 443 from 80?
      1. End user This can be changed to use port 443/use https.
      2. To CKO Server This can be set to use port 443
  4. RX Connect SQL Server
    1. Why is there a separate line for a generic SQL port (1433) going to the SQL server from end user? Because some sites have closed that port and RxConnect needs it to talk to the SQL server. So it has been noted that it is needed.
  5. CKO Server
    1. What data is housed here? This is a read only drug interaction database.
    2. What is the data from the Web Server to the CKO server? This is just drug interaction checks.
      1. Can this port be changed to 443 from 80?  It can be changed.
